It's amazing how hung up some of you guys are on this myth. Mind control and brain washing are both myths, garybuss is exactly right. The real reason you lick this stuff up is because you want to deny responsibility for your own actionions when you were Witnesses. This is very, very common among the "hostile leaver" groups of all religions. They all sing the same mind control song, which is really the "it wasn't my fault" song even if they don't want to admit it.

Jehovah's Witnesses Are Under Mind Control
by minimus inif you were to tell a witness that they were "brainwashed" or that they were "under mind control", they certainly would not rationally accept it.the reason is because witnesses cannot distinguish between mind control and "obeying the faithful and discreet slave".
it is only after a person stops exposing himself to the subtle mind controlling tactics of the watchtower that a person can see how thoroughly duped they are in their beliefs.
how might you be able to tell that you are no longer your own person, able to make your own decisions in your life?

logansrun and TJ I'm with you. I have no use for this foaming at the mouth stuff. It's just grandiose self-indulgence. Of course, there's a lot of that running around here.

Are You Still Influenced By The Watchtower Society?
by minimus in.
even if you've been away from jehovah's witnesses for years, do you still find yourself "under the influence"?

Some People Stay Witnesses Because They Don't Want To Think For Themselves
by minimus ini've come to that conclusion.
some would rather not have to think about a position, a prophecy, a requirement or a belief.
they really would rather follow the dictates of leaders of an organization.

While I don't disagree with your statement concerning Witnesses, I certainly don't think it's unique to them. In my experience most people are lazy non-thinkers who drift through life taking the path of least resistance or letting others make decisions for them. Especially Democrats!

Who's To Blame For The Child Abuse Problem?
by Englishman injust trying to get my head around this one.
with the jailing last week of a london dub paedophile, i was wondering: .
is it the religion itself that gives these perverts the feeling that they are invincible and immune from punishment when they commit these acts?

Interesting perspective ARoarer, I'd never thought of it that way. Not sure I give the Catholics as much a pass as you do. Knowingly shipping abusers around to different parishes where they continue to abuse is pretty nefarious if you ask me. I'm not sure worse, better, etc. are words that can be applied to this situation anyway.

i doubt the link will last more than a day.
it appears the man had no connection to the jw's previously, he just considered them an "easy mark".

This is a pretty good thread except for Farkel and gumby's lunacy. A pedophile would want nothing to do with a high control group with continual scrutiny of their actions.
I do believe that when it comes to situational pedophilia, especially with older girls, that some of the repressive, restrictive atmosphere in the Organization may play a part. Some guy that's not happy with his situation and limited social skills sees an available sexual outlet and takes it without considering the ramifications of what he's doing. I know of two situations where that's happened.

Should The Watchtower Be Blamed For Everything Bad Happening In Your Life??
by minimus inat times, i read some watctower apologists complain here that everyone blames the watchtower society for everything or anything negative in their lives.
sometimes, because of who is expressing this view, a few might jump on the bandwagon and attack the poster.
but i wonder whether or not we at times need to deal with our own negatives about ourselves.
